Following the strategic reorientation, the Linz-based Lactoprot Alpenländische Milchindustrie und Handels GmbH is now operating under the name Prolactal GmbH. Company centres in Austria are to be found in Hartberg, Wörgl and Pasching.  These are mainly involved with the development, production and marketing of milk and dried whey products, as well as concentrates and special mixtures, especially for the confectionary, ice cream and baking goods industry. In addition, to the specialisation in the sweet (“Non-Savoury”) lines in industrial business, consumer goods business is directly served by the traditional “Hartberger” sour curd cheese brand. 

In its Hartberg plant, Lactoprot Austria / Prolactal produces whey powder with demineralisation levels of up to 90%, as well as hydrolysed whey concentrate for the beverages and ice cream industry. In addition to conventional milk and whey derivates, as an accredited bio-plant, Lactoprot Austria / Prolactal also offers products on the basis of organically produced milk and whey, which in particular are used for the children’s foods industry. The company has established an excellent reputation in the chocolate industry with its mixture business area. The high quality Cocoa Preparations pre-product is produced especially for the Japanese market. Moreover, Lactoprot Austria / Prolactal manufactures baking creams, carries out contract drying using spray and rolling process and operates the only curd cheese production plant in Austria.  

Whey processing is centred at the Wörgl plant, where modern filter technology is employed for the production of whey concentrate, permeate and whey retentate for the foods and pharmaceuticals industry. The Pasching location provides laboratory services for both external and internal customers. A company sales office is located in northern Germany. 

R&D is a major Lactoprot Austria / Prolactal priority. The company co-operates successfully via its third-party research institute Biomerx GmbH with public research bodies such as the Vienna University of Life Sciences, a qualified development team constantly designing new products to exactly meet the needs of customers and technological processes.
